THE TOOLS

IS THERE ANYTHING COOLER THAN HAVING YOUR OWN personal FORGE FOR A WEEK?

I submit there is not. Coming in a strong second, however, was getting to use four different blowtorches. ...FOUR.

THE PROJECT

Forging a handle out of iron, hammering and slicing a copper disc, filing and blowtorching and sandblasting and acid-washing and stoking the fire and striking while the iron is hot and so so so much coal dust... All that to make a copper saute pan that I'll probably never use because it's too precious.

Seriously one of the greatest things I've ever done.

THE TAKEAWAY

... CRAFT IS FOR EVERYONE!!! And somehow I've got to get my own forge. Probably not plausible for my high school classroom, but...
